(pict. by dr. Clemente)

Clinical history: a 65y.o. woman with 13 years history of malabsorption and diarrhea undergoes a diagnostic jejunal biopsy. The bowel mucosa appears whitish and slightly raised.
Microscopic description: The lamina propria of the bowel mucosa is crowded by large cells (pict. 1), with regular nuclei and granular, PAS (diastase resistant) positive cytoplasm (pict. 2) - (pict. 3) - (pict. 4) - (pict. 5), which show positivity with immunocytochemical staining for CD68 (pict. 6) and Vimentin (pict. 7) and are negative for Cytokeratin (pict. 8).
In between these cells there are large, confluent lobules of mature lipocytes.
