"COCCYGEAL NODULE"
M. RONCALLI - Humanitas C.I. - Rozzano
(Pictures by dr. Faravelli).
Clinical history: a 9y.o. girl presents with a round, 2.5cm nodule in the soft tissue in front of the coccyx.
Before excision a FNA is performed.
Microscopic description: the cytology smears show single, monomorphic epithelioid–like cells (pict. 1) - (pict. 2) - (pict. 3).
Histologically the lesion has mainly solid features (pict. 4) - (pict. 5) and occasionally shows tubular and micro-cystic structures (pict. 6) - (pict. 7).
There is extra-cellular deposition of acid mucin (pict. 8) and the neoplastic cells are strongly positive with immunohistochemical staining for protein S-100 (pict. 9) and for GFAP (pict. 10), negative for Cytokeratin.
