Clinical history: A 65y.o. man undergoes surgery for hip joint prosthesis.
The surgeon notes a hyper-pigmentation of the joint cartilage and sends the femoral head to the pathologist with already established clinical diagnosis.
Microscopic description: the joint cartilage shows large, diffuse deposits of black material ( pict. 1) - ( pict. 2).
