"OVARIAN MASS"
A. BELLOMI - Mantua Hospital
(pict. by dr. Faravelli)
Clinical history: a 79y.o. woman undergoes surgery for the presence of a right ovary, solid mass.
Microscopic description: the lesion consists of myxoid areas ( pict. 1) admixed to more solid areas ( pict. 2) with spindled, monomorphic cells, in a storiform pattern ( pict. 3).
There are also more cellular areas ( pict. 4) with more atypical cells ( pict. 5 - pict. 6) and higher number of mitoses ( pict. 7). The silver stain shows a dense and increased reticulum, which surround single cells.
