"FNA FROM BILATERAL CERVICAL NODULES"
C. ZOGNO, S. CRIPPA - Desio Hospital
(Pictures by dr. Zogno & dr. Crippa)
Clinical history: a 50y.o. woman presents with two palpable, cervical, bilateral nodules with a clinical suspicion of lymphoma. FNA is performed.
Microscopic description: the smears from both side show a haematic background and small groups of loose, polygonal cells, surrounded by stroma and vessels; the cells have pale, fragile cytoplasm with indistinct borders and sometimes fine reddish granules, particularly evident with MGG stain; the nuclei are round or oval with finely dispersed chromatin and small nucleoli. Occasional, marked nuclear atypia is noted (pict. 1 - pict. 2 - pict. 3 - pict. 4 - pict. 5 - pict. 6 - pict. 7).
With immunohistochemical staining the neoplastic cells are strongly positive for Chromogranin (pict. 8).
