"A MASS IN THE UTERINE SEPTUM IN A UTERUS BICORNIS"
M. SIRONI - Garbagnate Hospital
(pictures by dr. Faravelli)
Clinical history: a 59y.o. woman, who is in follow-up for a melanoma excised four years before, undergoes hysterectomy for prolapse and fibromatosis of the uterus.
During the operation the surgeon find a uterus bicornis with a large, 12 cm mass, uterine septum.
Microscopical description: the mass consists of small, spindle cells arranged in fascicles and sometimes in nests (pict. 1), which disorderly infiltrate the myometrium (pict. 2 - pict. 3 - pict. 4).
The neoplastic cells are strongly positive with CD10 (pict. 5).
Further macroscopical sections show more atypical areas with osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma-like features (pict. 6 - pict. 7 - pict. 8 - pict. 9).
