"SUBMUCOSA LESION OF THE GASTRIC CORPUS"
G. DELL'ANTONIO - Istituto Clinico Humanitas - Rozzano
(Pict. by dr. Faravelli)

Clinical history: a 42y.o. woman presents to another hospital for hemoperitoneum from bleeding of liver metastases by an unknown primary tumor. After a few months the patient presents to our hospital to do further investigation and a gastroscopy is performed.
During the exam, a 4cm lesion is discovered and a biopsy is performed.
Microscopical description: in the submucosa there is a proliferation of epithelioid cells, in solid nests, with a very high mitotic index (Pict. 1 - Pict. 2 - Pict. 3 - Pict. 4).
The overlying mucosa shows no alteration. With immunohistochemical staining the neoplastic cells are positive for C-Kit (Pict. 5) and Vimentin and are negative for CD34, Cytokeratins (Pict. 6), the Anti-melanin antigen and the neuroendocrine markers.
