Clinical history: A 70y.o. man presents with colitis of unknown nature. A colonoscopy is performed.
Microscopical description: one of the two biopsy fragments shows a marked active and erosive inflammation with regenerative hyperplasia (pict. 1) and granulation tissue (pict. 2).
There are also isolated large atypical cells with relatively large cytoplasm and irregular nuclei (pict. 3 - pict. 4), with intensely eosinophilic nucleoli or a large vacuole (pict. 5 - pict. 6 - pict. 7 - pict. 8).
These cells are negative for Cytokeratin and positive for CMV probe (pict. 9 - pict. 10).
