“Peritoneal cystic lesions”

Clinical history
55 y.o. woman with diffuse abdominal pain and feeling of abdominal mass.
Macroscopical description
Appendicectomy with segmentary colectomy, colecistectomy and “ necessitatis” splenectomy with removal of peritoneal serosa were performed.
In all the serosal cavity were present multiple cystic formations with major diameter between 0,5 and 2 cm, smooth internal and external walls and a clear citrine content. Such formations leant against other organs without infiltration (Pict. 1).
Microscopical description
The cystic formations showed a flat, single layer of mesothelial lining, cystic wall was surrounded by loose stroma and no infiltration was observed (Pict. 2 - Pict. 3).
The cystic lining was immunophenotypically positive for calretinin (Pict. 4) and cytokeratin AE1-AE3 (Pict. 5).
