MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD IN CAMAIORE (LUCCA) ON MARCH 17th, 2001

Just for a change it is raining cats and dogs.
But the Tuscany visit of the Pathologists from Milano and from other regions to Tuscany, takes place without problems. Dr. Gentili has informed all the pathologists from Tuscany and there is a very successful attendance: all the provinces are represented.
But it is better to continue in order.
At 3p.m. dr. Gentili opens the meeting and with the help of numerous viewing slides he presents the two days agenda in Versilia.
Soon after dr. Faravelli, one of the Pathologists of the “Patologi oltre frontiera” group, with the help of beautiful slides, talks about his experience in Mwanza (Tanzania) in August 2000, about the work in there, the people and the city and Tanzania in general.
After that, Dr. Colafranceschi, in a masterly manner, enriches the previous exposition with an interesting and funny presentation on “ Hippopotamus in between myth and reality”.
After a “sweet” break the meeting starts again at 5p.m.
Another of the “Patologi oltre frontiera” group, Dr. Stracca, from Venice, introduces briefly the SIAPEC initiative in Cuba and before the traditional cases discussion there is an “ads” by dr. Tasso from the Histoline company who introduces a new product for the in situ hybridisation for the HER2 determination in the breast neoplasia.
Finally at 5.30p.m. the cases discussion starts. There would be a lot of cases to see but only seven are discussed: to follow, there will be the meeting for the establishment of “ the Group of the Tuscany Pathologists”.
They want to follow the example of the Group of the Milano Area. To start with, they decide to meet every two months: the first meeting will be held on April 18th at Empoli at 4p.m., hosted by dr. Biancalani.
To finish the day there is a sumptuous dinner with tasty fish and then a sound sleep to recover from the white wine.
On Sunday morning at 10a.m. nearly everyone, accompanied by the family, are at the meeting point for a visit to Carrara, Colonnata and to a marble quarry in the Apuane Alps.
It's 5p.m. on Sunday afternoon when the pathologists of the Milano area starts their way back home; everyone has his small packet of Colonnata lard in the boot; some of them are thinking: “ the defamers call those from the Milano area the “Pizza Pathologists”; what will be the name for the Tuscany pathologists? A proposal:...“the lard pathologists”.
