Minute of the meeting held on May 11th, 2002, at the Istituto Cantonale di Patologia, Locarno, Switzerland

It's a rainy and nearly wintry Saturday morning during spring, and a numerous group of nearly forty pathologists from the Milano area cross, for the first time, the border between Italy and Switzerland.
All this, not for a fill up of fuel or to buy chocolate or cigarettes but for a more noble aim: to discuss pathological cases with our “far away” Swiss colleagues in Locarno. The only one “DOC” Swiss person we meet is the Director and with him there is an international group of Italians, Peruvians, Nicaraguans, US pathologists.
The meeting is opened by Paolo Giovenali, who came exceptionally from Perugia and advertises the “Pathologists outside the Boundaries” Group to tempt some of the Swiss pathologists to go to Mwanza in Tanzania.
After the cases presentation a visit to the Pathology Institute embarrasses nearly all of us. Have you ever seen an Italian pathologist and an Italian technician to do the cut up while sitting in a comfortable padded armchair?
Look at the pictures of the department at the end of this document! Is this only because Switzerland is the World Bank?
